My org built a Tutor/Mentor Program Locator in 2008, which is a map platform w many layers that you can use to tell a story. This map shows 7th Congressional District of Illinois.
On many browsers the page formats like this graphic, which I've never liked.
Today I realized I could click on icon in upper right & get full screen view. Took me 14 yrs. Duh.
View this at http://tutormentorprogramlocator.net/GovernmentMap.aspx?map=Congressional
It needs work. Volunteers & partners needed. Could be made available to other cities.
I'm a huge fan of data maps that show areas of inequality, climate change, segregation, etc. I added an interactive map of individual Chicago Public Schools on blog article at https://mappingforjustice.blogspot.com/2018/01/chicago-united-for-equity-cps-equity.html
If you read the article you can see how I urge students, volunteers, activists, etc. to use platforms like this to create map stories that draw attention to the problem, show solutions and data & get others involved. This applies in every part of the world, not just Chicago.
As I go through each day the prompts from social media and/or events I attend, often motivate me to write articles on my blog. This has been a strategy I call "Rest of the Story" which I launched in 1994. It's described at https://mappingforjustice.blogspot.com/2017/03/follow-up-to-negative-news-about.html
A couple of days ago I watched a video showing digital learning disparities in schools across the country. Today I saw an article about the location of the drug crisis. I wrote about both on 10/25 & 10/26 at https://mappingforjustice.blogspot.com . #mapstories
