My son found a bowerbird bower a few blocks from home. I think it's a Great Bowerbird (that's its name, not my opinion).

This is not a nest. It is a Tinder profile that uses Instagram filters. The male builds this tunnel, and carefully arranges pale grey bits and pieces in an exact pattern, bigger at the front, smaller near the tunnel, shiny out the back. Then he stands in it. The foreshortening makes him look huge and sexy.

It's rodeo time in my little town, one of the bigger rodeos on the circuit, I'm told. And all the shops are done up rodeo style. I went to the optometrist and thought I'd walked into the wrong shop. They have the best display in my limited opinion:

The stroller has two flat tyres again. A quick look identifies the problem, the tyres are full of these buggers. Goat's head thorns, or Tribulus terrestris. The seeds are nature's caltrops, very hard and sharp, bundles of four thorn-seeds capable of going straight through a thong and into your foot. Endemic to #Mareeba and in dry places around the world. Awful things, but you have to admire how they evolved. #WildOz
