Brilliant start to day 4 of : Plenary from @TheFosterLab with a fascinating look at the use of coralline algae for innovation in reconstructions! So much un-tapped potential, with importance for understanding the past so we can better predict the future!

The magnitude of production in the epipelagic zone of the subtropical covaries with processes and thus acts antagonistically to weaken the radiative benefit of removal by the marine biological pump.

Definitely see the pH effects of a 300ml dose of NaHCO₃ in the image below showing snapshots of data captured over time.
The effect on pH was almost instant…(note: no animals inhabit this system as I’m doing this. A pH drop this quickly would stress, and likely kill, marine inverts and fish. Hopefully the effect is not detrimental to my bacterial colonies.)

Almost time to move my main display inhabitants to the new and larger 183g glass box. Tuesday’s the big day.
The Alkalinity and pH balancing has been tough. Now switching from Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) to Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3 or aka baking soda) to push my Alkalinity up to match the current tank at 8.5 dKH (degrees of carbonate hardness) but suppress the pH boost from the Hydroxide dosing.
