They were queuing up at Wilmslow Community Market Gardens first ever stall at the town’s market last month! 🥕🍅🥦

Transition Wilmslow is working towards a ring of gardens around the town growing much of its fruit and veg, and this gave them a new outlet to get the fresh, local, organic food to people.

They also have a stall at their Oakenclough garden at a local children’s centre, and this month, they’re working with a local chef to run ‘plot to plate’ sessions with local families – harvesting straight from the allotment and cooking it up in tasty dishes on the day.

It’s funded by a Transition Together seed funding grant, made possible thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.

Today, I made Mark II of my home-brew #compost aerator. The idea was pinched from #GardeningAustralia (as far as I can remember).
It is an old tomato spiral with two pieces of metal pipe as handles, bent in a vice.
Mark I had only 1 piece of pipe.
The electric compost sieve was a gift from friends, who didn't have a use for it. For me, it's a game changer. #Sowing almost everything for the #MarketGarden in module trays means, huge amounts of compost are needed this time of the year.

Last year, something gave me hope.
I was building a#NoDig #MarketGarden and the farmer next door came along looking at the compost.
"You got the stuff from the garbologists, right? Nothin' will grow in it!"
Same farmer 5 month later looking at the healthy plants said he was thinking about a nodig veg patch and started watching #NoTill videos on YouTube.
That day, I was a really happy man.

And FINALLY - it's been a mild, wet and windless day so perfect to sort the weeds. I havent the energy to dig, and I don't want to destroy the soil structure by pulling weeds when it's wet so I decided just to grab some more cardboard and do a no-dig layer on top. I needed the rain to wet the material and keep it down. Normally I'd just cover in compost immediately but I haven't the strength post COVID.

We're using a mix of Ridgedale & Dowding approaches.

We've got 90 beds, each 10m x 0.75m, so 675m2 of cultivable surface. Attached picture shows the beginning of our first season in 2020.
