Mars at its best TONIGHT as it reaches opposition 8th of December. It will be found directly opposite the sun from the earth's perspective.
These events also happen to coincide with Mars being at its closest point to Earth on Nov. 30

I was looking forward to the big fiery #Mars corona as the #moon exactly eclipsed the planet. Oh and the gravitational lensing as Mars passed the limb of the moon would've let us count the rivets on Oppy's back.
But no, all was lost in an astronomical failure of cooperative weather.

Watched it slowly catch up, not realizing that what I saw had a name.
