Who's this in the backyard eating our lawn?

Why it's our little Swamp Wallaby.

She's here most afternoons around dusk now. Clearly needing to really eat to help feed the joey.

Our little is back in our backyard this evening, and it looks like it might be a female with joey, given the bulging pouch. Can't tell for certain, but it appears that way.

"Ask anyone what first springs to mind when they think of Australia and they’ll most likely say a kangaroo; the marsupial is ingrained in our national identity. But have you ever wondered why kangaroos never ventured beyond our shores?"

It's always cool capturing a wombat on trailcam & this one was quite a big healthy looking lump of a creature.😀

Finally, I am using the stylus on my phone to make my own avatar for this app. I wanted a very simple blocky style at first reminiscent of a 16-bit character since that's the level of graphics I grew up with, but I kind of like this better. I am very unfamiliar with Autodesk Sketchbook, so i couldn't figure out how to resize the image after i was done.

Following a dispute with Davo over access rights to the paddling pool, a possum is now having a good feast in a Peruvian pepper tree.

"You’re a mammal. So is a kangaroo. We’ve got much in common. But one of the most interesting is we all feed our newborns with milk. The word mammal comes from mamma, which is Latin for breast.

In Australia, we have many placental mammal species, like bats and native rodents. Humans are placental mammals too. But our country is far better known for our marsupials and monotremes, which have different reproductive strategies to placental mammals.

Monotremes are the only mammals to lay eggs. When an echidna egg hatches, the baby is very underdeveloped. Marsupials, too, give birth to underdeveloped young. When a wallaby gives birth to a tiny pink joey, it’s the equivalent to us giving birth to an eight week old foetus. Most of their development happens outside the womb or egg."

Wallaby joeys and platypus puggles are tiny and undeveloped when born. But their mother's milk is near-magical theconversation.com/wallaby-jo

Just got home to find this young Swamp Wallaby in the backyard. Amazingly it didn't hop away instantly, and I had time to get upstairs and grab a camera.

This is a whimsical mini linocut of the blue Batbearoo, a widely unknown, & quite possibly, completely imaginary composite creature. Despite its looks & its name, the Batbearoo is neither bat nor bear, but a flying marsupial most closely related to the quolls.

The Batbearoo (Dasychiroptera ursus) shares a common ancestor with the marsupial quoll family of Australia, & …

My Mum has been visiting for 3 weeks and hadn't seen a possum but then this fuzzy youngster decided to do some day walking and eat grass right outside the window. I thanked it with a strawberry.
