It has taken me a long time to get to Mary Hays. Her novel (a lot based on life) is brilliant, fearless, philosophical (in dialogue with Rousseau, Wollstonecraft, Godwin (who appears as Mr Francis), Helvétius and many poets. It leaps right near to the top of my best of the #1790s, with Caleb Williams. Mémoires de Filles, by #AnnieErnaux, 2016 matches and also exceeds The Years. Read it pretty much in one go. #Memoir #C18 More on #MaryHays here: https://historia.3.nftest.nl/editorial/mary-hays-transforming-the-meaning-of-woolf-s-a-room-of-one-s-own/?fbclid=IwAR0hcAQ2G-rTFgm21EIkJm7tkOvFT2S4N48FsrBu4OQYmq98BFlVHveK4DY
