In case anyone is wondering what, in reality, will make hospitals in the US enact mask mandates, here it is:
When the costs of temporary staffing coverage, coupled with lost revenue from cancelled elective surgeries, exceeds the perceived cost of masks on patient satisfaction and staff retention. Period.

There is no quality metric for nosocomial COVID, and hospitals don’t lose money on it until the above conditions are met.

there’s very little in life I’m💯 absolutely, definitively sure about but can say say w/complete certainty *this* WAS deliberate & highly calculated. The thing that pushed me from 99% to 100% was when they dropped #maskMandates in hospitals. It was like getting rid of seatbelts in cars.. made zero sense & deliberate was the only logical answer

I’ve been thinking about the nasty comments I saw yesterday on Twitter when someone described their attempts to seek safe medical treatment. They were #Immunocompromised. #MaskMandates were cancelled at the hospital.

The #DumpsterFire:
Doctors, #MedicalStaff refused to #mask, even if it could save the life of their patients.
Bystanders and twitter replies were hostile, called out the disabled patient for being not-normal, weak, demanding.
Commenters used logical fallacies, distracting arguments to make their points on how the patient’s health was not important enough to rate any consideration.

So pointing out the benefits, the mortality, the simplicity of masking to protect someone didn’t work. I wonder what #SocialComparison may have helped. “Most people…” “People in your community are…” “The smartest folk…”

New Covid study finds that:

*Higher Covid infection and death rates occurred in states with higher poverty rates, lower numbers of years of education, and lower number of people expressing interpersonal trust.

* Higher Covid infection and death rates also occurred in states with larger percentages of Black & Hispanic people

*Lower death rates were associated with greater access to quality healthcare, but not, necessarily to greater spending on public health.

*No association was seen between the political affiliation of the state governor & lower COVID-19 death rates, but worse COVID-19 outcomes were associated with the proportion of a state's voters who voted for the 2020 Republican presidential candidate.

*Mask use was associated with lower infection rates, as were mask use.

*Higher vaccination rates were associated with lower death rates.

*State GDP and student reading test scores were not associated with state COVD-19 policy responses, mask mandates, or death rates.

Here's one confusing thing about daily life in #Taiwan right now: the government has been phasing out of #maskmandates from December to March, reducing them to public transport, hospitals and housings for elderly. Still 95% of the Taiwanese still wear masks in public, outdoors and in shops.

I know people on here told me not to go for walks, but I did do a longer than yesterday walk today, because I needed to, to cope with something upsetting and now if I get #LongCovid it will be my fault and not the #ToryGovernment who did away with #MaskMandates; #Ventilation; #FreeLFTs and #TrackAndTrace.
