Am finally sitting on a bench outside with a mango smoothie after co-chairing a conference. Three days, 215 attendees, 46 sessions (7 hybrid), 3 plenaries, 110 presentations/workshops/roundtables, 140 presenters. An exploration gallery, three garden tours, a preconference. A team of 16+ people made it happen. A year of planning for my co-chair and I. Finish line crossed. Phew!

Requiring people to choose between being included in an event or protecting their health and safety says that you value neither their inclusion nor their health and safety: you are literally indifferent. You don't care if they endanger their health and safety by coming to your mask-optional event, and you don't care if they miss out on your mask-optional even for the sake of their health and safety.
