Unfortunately, two of #mastedon 's worst decisions were 1) Not allowing #QuoteToot s & 2) Not publicizing boost/like counts to others.

That's why likes serve almost no purpose. Also, no #QuoteToots suppresses sharing great ideas b/c you can neither add context to a boosted comment nor add your own commentary to another toot.

I've heard the arguments about those things amplifying trolls or creating pile-ons but the "fixes" squash way more good ideas, IMO.

I wonder if there will be community controversy over using the prefix #masto versus #masta... I am in the O camp. Case in point: people can't decide whether it is #mastadon or #mastodon. I propose that at a minimum we can all agree that #mastidon and #mastedon and #mastudon and #mastydon are PROBABLY incorrect. Which option is the wrongest?

@sciencebase I think other people misunderstood as well. I was touting the great feature of #Mastedon that you CAN (if you choose) change instances and (optionally, if you want) bring ALL your followers with you so they don't have to do a thing. You don't lose them.
On the other hand, if you want to pull up stakes and leave toxic followers behind, you can do that as well. Either way, freedom!

@brandiraine The internet is a hateful place. It has been used to exploit our most self-destructive instincts, and that is now just the baseline.

However, with #Mastedon you can actually control your feed. There will always be people who try to spark outrage, but here we have the tools to avoid them. If we all use that power, the seeds of outrage will no longer find fertile soil.

It's like the Simpsons where all the ads came alive. Just look away and they lose their power.
