@mgrass @urbanistorg Occasionally at clinics people will ask me what’s an easy, low-effort fruit tree for the and I always tell them plums. Relatively pest free in our area, they don’t require the spraying regime that apples generally do, and you get a ton of yummy fruit.

Today's task was completing a spreadsheet for the meadow I manage at our demonstration garden. We're making new informational signs. Done! Next up, take photos of each.

@WordyAnchorite I always thought the same thing, but talking with our tomato expert has taught me what you’ve apparently learned the hard way. Tomatoes are really sensitive to temperature. They grow best between 55 and 85 Fahrenheit. Fruit production stops altogether when daytime temps are consistently near 100 and night temps don’t dip below 80. Which seems like a good portion of the nation right now.

@CharleneTeglia I’m a university extension and this is true—it was in one of our seminars. I always thought the hotter the better, but actually tomato plants don’t ripen fruit if the temperature is over—if I remember correctly— about 94 degrees Fahrenheit (34 C). Of course here in the we often have the opposite problem— not enough heat— so I don’t usually get ripe tomatoes till late August or September as well. They’re fussy plants.

’s is one of those where I really hate film discussion’s Rotten Tomatoes-ification. Things I liked, things I didn’t. Feels perverse to shuffle into a good/bad binary. Full coming @TAKEONECinema. I may need to log off when this releases for my own sanity.

@samuelgrootwassink @StudioCaroline Being a , I get asked this question in clinics from time to time, and our information agrees that it’s a myth— this coming from WSU horticulture professor Dr. Linda Chalker-Scott, who actually tests a lot of these assertions, Mythbusters-style, and keeps extensive FAQs and blog posts. You can find other common gardening myths debunked here: puyallup.wsu.edu/lcs/

@greeen @plants @thegardendude Hey all. University extension here. This is a great resource. I just checked through it using my own zip code. Do cross-check it with other resources though, not all the suggestions will be appropriate for your own backyard— it all depends on your local biome.

: I am a sculptor by training, I’ve done gallery and museum shows around the US, taught at a couple Big State Universities. Now I divide my time between being a UX designer for a Very Big Software Company and working on a sculpture garden in my backyard. I’m also a university extension so I love to answer random gardening questions.

For the gardeners out there, do you ever get those pesky houseplant gnats? They have a way of infecting my seedling trays in winter. I know all the basic to do’s but Gardeners World expounded ⬇️
Nematodes are superheroes and if all else fails there’s a unique fungus gnat eating carnivorous plant you can get 😳😂
