Some thoughts about moderation:

- you won't be able to make everyone happy. And you are a volunteer. Don't put too much pressure on yourself.
- do yourself a favour and don't visit the really ugly instances while doing research. Some of the shit there can cause nightmares (evil pedophiles, real nazi crap...). This is why the tier0 blocklist makes absolute sense. Nobody needs to see this.

Not-entirely-theoretical question for #MastoMods and #MastoAdmins / #FediBlock

How do we deal best with users hopping instances once suspended from another? It’s a bit of a hopeless whack-a-mole from what I can tell.

Clearly there’s a potential that their behaviour may not breach the chosen new instance’s rules, but also frustrating that any context is lost or information the previous admin may have gathered which led to the block.

What are some approaches or thoughts towards this?

@ItMightWork Thank you for the link - I had a read through and it looks like a lot of thought has gone into this.

The suggestion of a centralised list seems the most likely to solve the problem technically, although I have questions about moderation and maintenance.

I’ve followed the issue so let’s see where to goes!

If you’re on mastodon.world you should see the trending tags in #CamelCase - this is to aid readability, including by screen readers to improve #Accessibility.

This relies on manual editing of the tags - Mastodon allows mods and admins to change the capitalisation of trending tags, *not* any letters within the tags.

So please bear with as it does require manual review of the tags list, but I’ll do my best to keep the top 10 formatted this way.

Hey #MastoMods #admins how do you deal with instances that might have people talking in more than one language? I.E. current moderation team is all English speakers, but you have people who post in Spanish, German, etc. I am worried I might not be able to catch posts that break instance rules since I don't understand what is being said

Just a reminder to #mastoadmin and #mastomods, keep an eye on all your new incoming users, especially if you have open registration or invites(no approval needed). There's a potential for plenty of badly intentioned actors to slip in and either start trouble or go sleeper for later 👀
