As the evening draws in on Xmas Eve I traditionally have a nice strong Belgian ale, this year its Chimay Blue.

Happy Xmas to everyone on this Mastodon Beer instance, it's been great getting to have normal decent conversations on Social Media, I've made loads of new connections and had friendly chats with lots of people I probably wouldn't have in other circumstances.

A few weeks ago this Dublin brewery released an Oatmeal Stout exclusively sold in Aldi. I liked it so much I asked for the recipe and the brewer was very generous and gave me the full breakdown of ingredients and process.

Side by side tasting today and I've 2 mini kegs to drink over the next couple of weeks.

Very happy with the end product. Not exactly the same but it's a nice beer

#MastodonBeer We've already visited two breweries on #Kauai, #Hawaii. But we also had time to check out #OlaBrew and their IPA. Admittedly, there weren't many fresh choices from this brewery at the local #Safeway. But this was the 'freshest' Was light enough for the December climate.

Kegging up my Oatmeal Stout, small addition of vanilla extract (8ml/5L)for a little something extra for Xmas imbibing.

Beer I brewed as part of the Learn To Homebrew day a few weeks ago. Barclay Perkins recipe from 1921, a dry Irish Stout. IBUs are up in the 50s so it's quite bitter compared to modern examples of the style.

Lineman brewery are one of the best Irish microbreweries. They produce all styles of beer from light pales to strong dark stouts.

This Big Calm brown ale is seriously impressive. Lovely roast coffee hit from the brown malt.
