This is by no means a great photo but it’s one I was extremely grateful to take!

It shows a - a bird that is currently on the red list in the UK - with it’s well-known crest on show.

Minutes before we were treated to it’s spectacular song and dance.

It’s sad that their numbers are in decline and I really hope their numbers improve in the near future!

What did you see this weekend?

This is one of the lone male common eider’s I mentioned in my eider in flight post last week. This was taken at Findhorn Bay, along the Moray Coast in Scotland earlier this year.

I’ve said it before but the green tone of the eider’s nape is one of my favourites. It was a wet and windy day when I took this and I actually stopped my walk early…

This winter, Findhorn Bay (and many other areas in the UK) experienced a particularly bad influx of bird flu. It was a destressing sight to say the least when it became apparent how bad the outbreak was.

It’s important in these instances to take the necessary precautions to help prevent the spread of the disease to other areas and birds. Disinfecting footwear and finding alternative places to walk (that are not impacted by bird flu) are easy mitigation steps and is exactly what I did.

The situation at Findhorn has now thankfully improved a lot and I’m looking forward to getting back up there especially as the Osprey migration should be underway.
