However it should be opt- in, on the server level, obviously, so that people who refuse to chip in for server costs (90? 95? 99? Of users) can defray their costs by looking at ads. A way for mid level servers to pay for themselves.

The true cost of servers is hidden right now.
This is very obvious and runs on volunteers and puts therapy costs onto them.

I presume the setup would be able to easily serve a low volume of users under 1K.

I feel like maintenance overhead is more worry some than the cost at the moment.

I think we will start seeing more and more 1-click solution from different hosting provider soon.
