@Gargron should add a mode to Mastodon that creates an instance for the pool for auto-selection by new users.

This should start by informing new users that their account is temporary and time-limited, perhaps 6 months or 1 year, and telling them how to migrate to another instance for a permanent account.

Every instance that's not in the pool should ask the admin to set a maximum limit to user accounts, that defaults to 10,000.

I remember a few weeks ago, @MishaalRahman bemoaning the lack of threading on #mastodon and today, as I attempted to ramble, I felt that exact same pain. Funnily enough, @samruston added a cool feature to #Flamingo whereby it would take long posts, split and thread them. Hopefully mastodon adds threading or at least @moshidon adds a threading feature to #moshidon.

I wish there was a way to see a sub-feed, e.g. one sub-feed of *people* I follow and one of *hashtags* I follow.

タイムライン処理を軽量化できるアルゴリズム思いついたので置いておきます。

ユーザーごとに購読先の情報をcounting bloom filterのハッシュとして保存しておいて、投稿側のハッシュとマッチさせるのが基本。これでフォロワー全員分を保存する必要がなくなる。

bloom filterのハッシュはidとあわせても非常に軽い(20バイト程度)ので、最新の投稿や接続中のユーザーの投稿をメモリ上で持っておいてここでマッチさせることで少ないメモリ消費で高速化が可能

固定式のskipgraphとしてメンバーのハッシュ和を検索対象として持つノードを保存しておけば過去投稿についてもやはり高速に取得できる

🙋🏻‍♂️ Question for people familiar with #MastodonAPI: when building a client app like @ivory / @icecubesapp, is it ok/expected that each user will locally create a separate "App" in the API on their instance, even if that means my app will create 1000 "Apps" on mastodon.‍social? Or is it a good idea to minimize it if possible, e.g. by pre-registering the app on major instances and shipping keys in the binary? #MastodonDev #MastodonApps

Woah, just had my first PR merged into Mastodon... I've had a couple merged into glitch-soc now, but getting merged into the Mastodon is kinda insane!

Even if it was something as small as a bug fix, it feels good to have contributed to such a big project!

True, but #Mastodon however has been failing to enforce the #AGPLv3Compliance against apparent software thieves at #HellaDogeDotCom.

We have been calling for compliance for a long time now.

Difficult to know for sure whether some #collusion between #memecoin peddlers and a #MastodonDev exists.

So, I've been thinking of setting up my own mastodon server. It would be for only me and a few close friends in the www.PotholeStudios.com gaming community.

However, I seem to be running into a few snags.

1. I only have access to Windows server. No Linux. As I have other server software for some games that only run on windows server.

2. Everybody's favourite, Dynamic IP.

3. I do have a domain name, but I'd probably have to use a subdomain such as social.potholestudios.com or mastodon.potholestudios.com so how would I link a subdomain like that to a server on a dynamic IP through GoDaddy?

So, the question is, is it possible to run a Mastodon server with these limitations?
