While I use some in-#Emacs tools (e.g. #mastodonEl, #mu4e, #EXWM of course, #magit, etc.), I find #jabberEl pretty outdated compared to modern #Jabber clients like #Dino, #Gajim or #Profanity. And #eww feels very slow compared to #Firefox 🙁 (C-x 8 RET SLIGHTLY FROWNING FACE RET).

To get #mastodonel working on Debian 11 I had to add lines to package-install-file request.el and ts.el and then (require 'persist).

@mousebot This can be very handy for me in a different way: one thing I haven't managed to get to work with #mastodonEL is multiple accounts. fedi.el should make it possible.

On the other hand, keeping it open is also good. I like the way some #Emacs extensions leverage existing functionality (say, the #elpher gopher/gemini client uses the built-in bookmarking feature, rich text and html would use eww, etc.) In fact, I was following quite a few subreddits via RSS in elfeed only (I suppose that functionality will be sunsetted now).

So, yeah, great.

To use mastodon I endorse #mastodonel in emacs or for your own client-to-server API use, Common Lisp's #tooter official package, which is based on Edi Weitz' drakma for web requests.

Another aside, I became a true-believer in #links2 rather than lynx, except that lynx directly supports #gopher and people already have it installed.

@interfluidity Hmm, my instance has a rule that politics / religion posts have to be CWed.

And I've seen people suggesting using CWs more, either for anything approaching sensitive (e.g. photos with eye contact) or even as a way to classify your posts. I think that's why #mastodonEL has CWs enabled by default on new toots.

@strypey I think this nails a problem. The corpos want a reuseable wriggling worm lure on a nasty hook to catch fish.

ActivityPub is a depressing w3 consortium protocol. Nobody is happy. But it's sufficient for its basic use case and #MastodonEl is incredibel.

I'm getting "?" (question mark) pictures from mastodon.el in Emacs instead of the actual picture. I suspect I need to configure something to handle displaying pictures in mastodon, What is it?

It doesn’t call the right function though, I’d prefer for helpful-variable to be called rather than describe-variable
