Mastodon mavens, ¿is there a generally accepted guide to Mastodon etiquette? I tried searching; what came up was on Reddit and I don't generally think of Reddit as a vetted information source. I ask because a reply I tooted got an impatient response and when I explained why I did it they became downright hostile. I wound up blocking them and deleting my reply toots, but I'm not sure whether what I did was out of line or whether they were being sensitive. #MastodonEtiquette

What is the #mastodonetiquette for commenting or liking news articles? I follow NPR, AP, and Reuters, there are no comments or anything with the posts. Not saying it's necessarily bad, but... I don't know, seems quiet. Am I missing something? Are there conversations happening elsewhere?

One of the things I liked when I first came to Mastodon was the convention of using a Content Warning for toots about politics, violence & other potentially triggering topics. I still read most of them, but appreciated the opportunity to prepare myself for something potentially upsetting. I also tried to do the same with my own toots. Lately I’m hardly seeing any CWs & forgetting to use them myself. This morning I’ve read lots of political roots & articles… & it felt a bit like I was back at the bird site - anxiety & tension rose. 🙁#MastodonEtiquette

Definitely still a small community on here in the personal finance realm 🤪

Big difference to know is ‘search’ does not index/search all words within a post. Onnnnnly hashtags so they are used much more liberally here. My understanding is they did this because trolls used to utilize that search function to mass attack certain groups/phrases on the bird app & elsewhere. Also capitalize between words in a hashtag for greater legibility.
