Can you come up with a metaphor (500 character or less) to help explain Mastodon to new people using the hashtag #MastodonIsLike ?

#MastodonIsLike a dormatory.

In the figurative sense your account could be compared to your room and the server your building.
There are many residences on campus and you can talk to anyone in any building.
As well you can talk to other people all over the world.
When you first move in you might not know many people but eventually you find your way around.
One conversation leads to another.

Who else has done a #mastodonIsLike being inducted into a secret society you never knew about and you're sure to make lasting friendships but first you need to be sorted into houses that all have rich history that everyone else knows all about before they'll let you eat, sleep, or even talk to ppl?

And, btw, there are 29 knuts to a sickle; not sure if that's important but it might come up later.
