There is a strange air of inviolability that people carry to their doctrines and their beliefs. I feel as though they believe that they should be able to summon, as if at a whim, people to rally around their quips rather than put thought and effort into the connections they forge. As a person who was a stranger to everyone on #Mastodon, I'm happy to be slowly growing and connecting with people that are different.

They think differently and say different things from each other. Their work is different. In the end, the #Fediverse is a series of microcosms of normal people. It is not the virality of random lowest common denominators appealing to our basic senses. It is a place for sharing and conversing, and those conversations may look than they have before. That's a good thing.

There is sustainability in the ecosystem we feed through engaging with material civilly and seeking out the connections that feel more like the people we would want to be around. There is an amount of disconnectedness and sameness people want to apply to their experience of Mastodon. The whole point of Federation is the diversification of experiences people can have and content they engage with. Viral tracks run parallel to each other, on different servers, with people living at different times.

When truly great ideas from corners of the Internet and people resonate with them from all different servers, we see it in the replies and the virality they get, travelling from server to server in federated timelines. This is no longer One Big Conversation. It's forcing us to look around. And that, too, is a good thing.

@llebrun I agree that this is not a good thing, but you have to remember that #MastodonIsNotTwitter and admins can do what they please. If that means them loosing users from their instance, so be it. I would suggest to journalists to use/move to #JournalistFriendly #Mastodon instances where the moderation is more balanced.
