That’s the freaking point.

Since #MastodonIsntTwitter, I feel the need to say the following (really loud, in all caps):

BOOSTS ARE ENDORSEMENTS

Don’t boost a toot unless you agree with it. This isn’t Twitter. There is no algorithm. You’re not going to go viral by boosting other people’s toots.

I’m noticing that some peeps on here are being a bit stingy with the following. Don’t be. This isn’t Twitter. Share the love, and help to build this community. #MastodonIsntTwitter #ShareTheLove #FollowFolks #YouAreTheAlgorithm #TootsNotTweets #NzToots

An admin at another instance (not our lovely little kiwi one!) has been telling people to “follow, follow, follow accounts. You can un-follow them later.” He seems to be missing the point of mastodon, which is NOT the same as Twitter. We’re not here to simply build up our list of followers like folks do on Twitter. Don’t follow a bunch of people with the plan to un-follow them later, hoping they they don’t notice. This isn’t a popularity contest. This isn’t Twitter.
