Glad you mentioned “lists” - I noticed I don’t have any.
Is there a way you can briefly explain lists here for someone not that well-versed? Thanks!
#mastodonlists
Ok, don't get me wrong #MastodonLists is still usable as just a #List if you got two tabs open, one on those you follow and one on the list.
Just make sure you are very selective with who you follow or you're gonna do a lot of scrolling!
So #MastodonLists feature is not going to be helpful for me.
The #Cringe.
Anybody else suffering from the cringe caused by the #Mastodon #Lists feature?

New on the Mastodon List Manager - updated analytics (original posts v boosted posts), click on any user to go to their feed. (Oh, and if you got a "something went wrong" error trying to log in that should be cured too!) https://www.mastodonlistmanager.org/ #mastodonlists #lists
New on the Mastodon List Manager - analytics for your lists! Click the (i) info button on a list header to see information about # posts, boosts, top posters, etc. https://www.mastodonlistmanager.org/ #lists #mastodonlists
I wish #MastodonLists worked like birdsite ones. I have some #Fediverse accounts for news I want to keep separate because they're spammy.
On birdsite, I didn't have to follow an account to add it to a list. Straight forward.
On #Mastodon, I have to be following an account to add to a list which would be fine if I could mute them -- but I can't! If I mute them they're muted on lists!
Sure, I can make a separate account -- but to do this for every list I want? Annoying.

New on the Mastodon List Manager - the row/column highlighting on hover that several of you have been asking for! https://www.mastodonlistmanager.org/ #MastodonLists
New on the Mastodon List Manager - pagination for following tables, which lets me support many thousands of users while keeping interactivity high. https://www.mastodonlistmanager.org/ #MastodonLists
Folks - the Mastodon List Manager has a new home! Plus, a way to contribute, client-side architecture that eliminates many of the timeout scenarios, plus import/export functionality!

What lists do you use in here?
I have only two lists I use daily:
- #WebDev (the #IndieWeb-people, all the people who do websites, mostly #a11y, #HTML, #CSS and #JS people as those are my things) :sass:
- Suomalaiset (literally #Finnish people, people from #Finland, that is) :finland_heart:
#webdev #indieweb #a11y #html #css #js #finnish #finland #mastodon #mastodonlists
I wonder why #MastodonLists are build this way? I’m assuming the whole Fediverse concept and ActivityPub protocol needs users to follow each other as much as possible to be efficient?
Just I was trying to create lists I realized how TERRIBLE the #MastodonLists experience actually is. Not only the whole UX mechanisms are annoying, but the current stance seems to be “You can’t create lists of people you don’t follow” and “You can’t create public lists”. What are list good for then?!
n00b Question Time:
I'm looking at my recently-migrated-to InfoSec.Exchange profile, and I feel like I'm missing something. I have successfully transferred most components of my profile, such as Bookmarks, Followers, etc.
But what I don't know how to transfer over are my Lists, where I had organized those I Follow into various interest-based categories.
Is there a way to manage this, without manually recategorizing and recreating all of my lists from scratch? I tried to the right thing when migrating: I downloaded a .csv of my lists from my old instance, but when I upload it in the Import interface of my new instance, my Lists here remain empty.
I have tried this a small handful of times now, and allowed time, days and days, in fact, in case it just needed to process; There was a message that appeared, saying that the information would be processed in due time, or something to that effect.

Either I don't understand how Mastodon lists are supposed to work, or they are buggy features. I have several lists with several people in each. After being offline for a week, most are empty with the confusing message: "There is nothing in this list yet. When members of this list publish new posts, they will appear here."
Spot-checking one person I follow, they have an original toot (it's not a boost) from 5 hours ago, yet it doesn't appear in my list column.
Is this feature only intended to display toots sent while my web app is open? If so, perhaps the server (techhub.social) on which I created my account has a very small cache.
I’m really tempted to merge this ‘exclusive lists’ patch into my personal fork of #Mastodon. My main concern is that @Gargron decides to make this an official feature but with a different data model, and then I have to figure out how to migrate the data. On the other hand, my home timeline is out of control and this would go a very long way towards taming it.

New on the Mastodon List Manager today - a logout function and improved scrolling behavior (that keeps the list names on the top for long lists) #MastodonLists https://acbeers.github.io/mastodonlm
Alas, there is no way to efficiently build a list by importing handles / addresses via the edit function.
In his AMA yesterday, @Gargron said that he shares the common desire for list members who don’t overlap with your home feed. The question here is about “exclusive lists” but I hope he sees the benefit of adding folks to any list without following them. https://www.reddit.com/r/Mastodon/comments/zqfr4h/ama_with_eugen_rochko_founder_and_lead_developer/j11bjy5/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3
