New Mutants vol. 4 #7 is the last ish in Jonathan Hickman’s scattered run. It’s both meta and heartwarming. I think the page with instructions to roll dice to play out the fight was brilliant. Marvel’s Voices vol. 1 was definitely something I was excited about when I first heard about it, but I’m not sure if this ish really delivered. My gripe is mostly how short each story was. Most of them were one page, which equates to being less of a story and more a reflection on a character while an artists plays around with the layout. I did think it was cute that the Children of the Atom made a cameo here (we’ll talk about that ill-fated series later).

Random thought: Have they designed a flag for Krakoa yet? You can’t be a sovereign nation without one. But thinking back I can’t remember seeing a Krakoan flag yet. Did they introduce one but I just missed it?

I realize I’m going to make a lot of posts here about how criminal it was that Deadpool vol. 7 got cancelled. @KellyThompson is so freaking funny. She introduced me to Jeff and I’ll always lover her (and Jeff!) for it. In conclusion, I really liked #3.

There was a Peach Momoko cover, so you bet I picked up a copy of Moon Knight vol. 9 #18. I really love it when I hero uses their brains to defeat an enemy instead of just fighting them physically. It’s very Doctor Who, and I approve!

Maybe the revelations unveiled here aren’t that earth shattering, but there’s no doubt this is maybe the most important ish in Dawn of X. From this point on it’s a pretty clear road to Mystique resurrecting Destiny by any means necessary, changing the course of Krakoa forever.

But let’s be honest, the thing I love most about this ish is going back and comparing it to House of X. The art is different, but many of the scenes are identical, just adding a little information here and there to fully flesh out what Mystique was doing on the Orchis base. And some scenes from House of X can be read in a different light now that we know more…

X-Men vol. 5 #6 is a big one. A lot of these early ishes were setting up storylines that wouldn’t have a payoff for YEARS!!! This ish in particular set the stage for Destiny of X. The premise is simple: Xavier is leading Mystique along, promising to resurect Destiny, and Mystique is reaching her breaking point.

Excalibur vol. 4 #7 is not my favourite. There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with it. It’s the beginning of a new arc, which should be exciting, but honestly it feel a little like filler. It’s a cat friendly ish though, so I guess it isn’t all bad…

When I first read vol. 5 #5 I just kinda shrugged my shoulders and went about my business. I liked , but it felt like little to nothing happened… Little did I know this would turn out to be one of the most influential X-Men comics in the post-Krakoan age. Still today we are seeing fallout from the decision to enter the Vault, and I feel like we aren’t finished with it yet. Reading this again gave me chills!
