As a #MastodonNewby I’ve been trying to learn the capabilities and etiquette, but one question hasn’t been answered in the toots I’ve seen: Why does it seem like some posts are not limited to 500 characters? Do some servers allow more characters per toot?

I'm a refugee from the birdsite. I knew I was the product, but inertia and some genuinely beautiful human beings kept me there. I didn't think the bird could get gutted and cooked to a crisp so quickly, but such is life in this plutocracy where highly leveraged ego maniacs can buy and fry a business in short order.
