Why do I see posts from folks I don't follow in my "home" timeline?!? the @feditips page doesn't seem to have anything related to that... I get the "Local" vs "Explore" vs. "Federated" but I can't figure out how those posts make it there... #mastodonrookie 😇

One thing I really valued about #Twitter is the ability to discuss news by quote tweeting trusted journalists/ news stories

I know QTs have a bad rep, but they did allow easy, quick discussion, because the salient points were already summarised in the quoted tweet

And I’m missing that, on here, if I’m honest. Do I just accept that time has gone? Become more considered; less impatient. Or am I overlooking something? 🤔

Dingen voor nieuwe Donnies:

- Mastodon is dol op katten, dieren in het algemeen ook wel maar katten zijn echt alles hier
- Je gaat moeten wennen aan het ontbreken van een algoritme en gaat ook merken hoe fijn dat eigenlijk is
- Als je niet actief bent is tijdlijn doodsaai: volgen, boosten, interactie, repeat!
- Vraag wat meer ervaren Donnies om hulp, er zijn vet veel mensen die je graag helpen hier

Is there a Matodon App for iOS that allows saving drafts? I am using MetaText (which I love) but I don’t see any such option.
Is this simply something that’s not offered as a Matodon feature?

@estebanmoro As a new Mastodon user I can say that signing up for the first time can be very confusing.
All of the difference instances can cause choice paralysis as well as the idea that "bigger is better" or “I’ll be restricted to a small network” if I choose the wrong instance.
I initially signed up with mstdn.social - after 4 days I migrated to a smaller instance because you learn a lot by using the platform that doesn’t translate just by reading about it!

Question. Why, when I go to read comments on a toot, am I getting all the comments hidden behind a blue banner saying “show more?” I figure it’s a setting somewhere but cannot seem to find it. TIA. See screenshot.

Twee dingen voor nieuwe Mastodongebruikers om de boel inclusief te houden:

- gebruik hoofdletters in je hashtags zoals #CatsOfMastodon dus bij elk nieuw woord een hoofdletter. Dit helpt mensen met screenreaders makkelijker lezen. (Zou je ook op andere platforms moeten doen zoals bijv Instagram)
- omschrijf foto’s die je upload. Die optie staat er direct bij en het helpt mensen met een visuele beperking. (Zou je ook op andere platforms moeten doen zoals Instagram)

So exactly two weeks after joining Mastodon, I have realised that there is a difference between mstdn.social & mastodon.social 🤦‍♀️

I’d thought it was an ‘abrdn’/ Aberdeen Asset Management branding thing rather than a totally different instance

This might explain my chronic failure at logging into the web browser 😆
