Today was the first time I blocked a domain on Mastodon. I hope it works!

I blocked it in my browser by going to a profile page of an account from that server, clicking the menu (three vertical dots next to the Notify bell) and selecting Block Domain at the bottom of the list.

Mastodon tip. I've been here a few months, so still a relative newb. But one thing I have learned. Don't engage if you feel good faith is being violated. You're building your community for your purposes, and you have the right to protect the integrity of that process. This will likely entail the use of muting, unfollowing, or blocking, as necessary. This is not mean or exclusionary, merely self protective. I like muting personally, as it doesn't feed any fires.

A troll farm is active on Mastodon. I’m going to post profiles from them.

They’re posting nonsense, hoping to start conflict.

This us typical and boring troll farm behavior. They’ll try to get under your skin and get you to argue.

Just block and report. Reporting is key.

It's been rare for me to run into an account that worries me here on #Mastodon—e.g., a right winger who's up to no good.

But when I DO, I have a problem: there's no way to check their "favorites."

That was a key way for me to protect against crypto-fash accounts on #Twitter. People who carefully curate their posts often still expose themselves with their "likes." Probably half my blocklist was based on what people "liked."

This is a key #safety feature that's missing here.

▶️ Majority of the official handle will be unregistered like debian in your server. People can impersonate official accounts(I already seeing people are doing it)

▶️ I created "debian" handle in famous Mastodon servers including Infosec and checked 😂 (of course i deleted all of them). So watch out.

Is there a way to identify "trap" servers?

For example, if bad actors pretended to be an lgbtqia+ instance then blocked other other lgbtqia+ instances to isolate them.

Weaponised lists on Twitter can be a thing, ie putting trans allies on fake tranphobic lists so people block their own communities, so this is something that I feel needs to be considered.
