I believe strongly that #MastodonServerCosts should include therapy for moderators having to look at nasty stuff. Tough as someone is, that leaves marks and leads to burn out unless supported.

I have been trying to gather any information on costs with #MastodonServerCosts but I don't see such info too often.

Unknown costs in terms of time and running are I think fairly large barriers to running an instance, because no one starts off wanting to do a shoddy job.

@aral is an interesting case study for gaining an audience and moving, @darnell for someone who wanted their own platform.

Very public spirited! I think a lot of donations go to "Mastodon" that end up with the dev team and really they should go to servers because server admins don't ask for the running costs.
