Exemple : j’ai copié un fichier dans mon Dropbox, et je veux garder le lien sous la main, pour pouvoir le refiler à d’autres, au besoin. Je mets le lien dans un toot à moi-même… Et voilà ! 😋

Rappel : publier en « non listé » la plupart des conneries qu’on raconte ici, c’est bien. On peut même configurer son compte pour que que ça soit le statut par défaut (c’est ce que je fais).

MAIS si vous utilisez des hashtags dans votre toot, c’est (a priori) pour qu’il puisse être retrouvé par ce tag. Alors pensez à donner le statut « public » simple à votre toot. En « non listé », les tags ne sont pas fonctionnels. Ils ne servent à rien (sauf à faire joli).

If you have and use more that one Mastodon account and use same avatar, try just to change avatar color. Etc. blue for account 1, green for 2.
So when you switch accounts on the fly you know.

I you don't want to see toots about #Twitter #Threads etc. using filters will make them disappear from your timeline. You can filter words, hashtags, and even specify how long the filter will last.

Reminder: Mastodon has good support for both filtering content you don't want to see and for banning entire instances as a user.

Personally, I have a filter for content posted from Twitter to hide those by default from my timeline. I still read a lot of them posted by people whose other content I enjoy, but by default they don't fill up my timeline.

Blocking bird.makeup is useful if you don't like Twitter content.

Pursuant to that last toot, you can follow public timelines from all over the Fediverse w/ Fedilab for Android (Calckey, Pixelfed, etc).

You can also follow individual birdsite accounts if there's something you need for safety's sake. I use it to follow the local fire department w/o ever having to see the site.

The "Federated" feed at the side of the screen shows all the public posts by all the accounts that people on your home instance follow, including accounts on other instances.

Y'all, I'm continually seeing people who are still confused about handles on here.

It's like email. The first half is your name/handle (mine is @ ElizabethLeeCo) and the last half is your instance/server (mine is @ horrorhub.club).

Just like when you email someone, you need *both* parts of the addy on here for people to be tagged.

In other words, if I'm emailing my dad, I can't only type his first name. I need the @gmail.com part too 🤓
