Another day, another game whose colored squares I have to figure out how to block because really, I don't care to see a timeline filled with colored squares.

(When I first got on Mastodon, someone told me how to block the squares themselves, not just the game hashtags which not everyone uses. But I lost that filter at some point. If anyone knows how, that'd be great.)

There's getting to be so many things in my feed that I feel I'm missing stuff. So I keep a list of hashtags in my intro post (pinned to top) and when I'm in the mood, I click those to focus on a topic.

My number one tip for new Mastodon users: hashtags.

Following hashtags on Mastodon means toots with those tags show up in your home timeline.

And, because lots of people do it, adding hashtags to your toots is a great way to get them seen by people who don't follow you. #mastodontips #tips #Mastodon

Petit rappel les gens sur les hashtags :

Quand vous écrivez un hashtag sur un seul mot, vous pouvez l'écrire en #minuscules, ou avec une #Majuscule, qu'importe.

Quand le hashtag est une suite de mots, écrivez en PascalCase comme on dit chez les devs, c'est à dire #UneMajusculeÀChaqueMot.

Votre hashtag sera traité pareil que ce soit majuscule ou minuscule, mais c'est plus lisible pour tout le monde en général, et pour les lecteurs d'écran et dyslexiques en particulier.

For the newcomers, did you know you can filter out hashtags from your timeline and others?

For example if you follow #illustration then all posts with this tag will show up in your home-timeline, but what if you'Re not interested in 'furry' or 'elves'? Then just go to Preferences -> Filters and add these hashtags there, and posts with these tags will be hidden totally or with a little message that the post is hidden because of your filter.

PROBLEM: Auto-refresh makes browsing hard

Using a web browser? Like the wide-net "Federated" feed, but hate the auto-refresh?

'Slow Mode' should perhaps be called 'Do not auto-refresh feeds', because functionally, that is what it does ("use_pending_items" in the code)

TO FIX:
Click the 'Slow mode' box on "<your-server>/settings/preferences/appearance"

RESULT:
Now you get a little text box at the top of the feed, showing how many new items will load when/if you click.

A reminder on the differences between boosts, favourites and bookmarks:

— Boosting is for sharing. When you see something you like enough to want others to see too, you do so by boosting it.
— Favouriting is for liking, but not for sharing. It lets the poster know you liked what they did.
— Bookmarking is for saving for oneself only. It doesn't let the poster know.

Remember that Mastodon doesn't have algorithms that propagate content based on these actions.

Hallo zusammen, ich bin auf der Suche nach einem Camper. Diesel m. Partikelfilter oder Gas. Standheizung, Küchenmodul, im besten Fall ein Aufstelldach oder sonst ein Bett was auch zum Sitzen taugt.
Ich habe ja zwei tolle Hunde, so dass genug Platz sein muss. Also VW T4, Renault Traffic, Ford irgendwas... ( bis 13000,- weniger wäre besser)

Si vous êtes sur smartphone, sachez que certaines applis (comme @Fedilab que j'utilise d'amour) vous permette de vous abonner à une instance. Vous pouvez ainsi consulter son fil public local depuis votre appli et interagir dessus (repouet, répondre, etc) sans avoir à vous re-logger.
