Finally shut down my X/Twitter account, as something that just wasn't useful to me any more. Experience here (all 2 months or so of it) is so far slightly better - level of interesting content about the same, but more sense that what I say finds interested readers about as often as it should.

I was thinking about a post that compared behavior on twitter vs behavior on mastodon. I was reminded of a video on TikTok by congressman Jeff Jackson on the differences in behavior in hearings when the cameras on vs no cameras. I feel that twitter+algorithm is like congressional hearings televised as everyone preens for the camera. However, Mastodon is more like congress with no TV cameras running. #mastodon #MastodonVsTwitter

You use Windows all your life
You're sitting in front of a Linux computer

I like the 500 character limit for toots. One thing Twitter had right from the start was limiting the characters per tweet though 140 was always too short. You can still be expressive and punchy in 300-500 characters #mastodonvstwitter

Was mir auf #mastodonvstwitter fehlt oder was ich noch finden muss - Zufälliges Entdekcken interessanter Leute. Braucht es dafür kritische Größe oder besseres Suchen? Durch die vschd. Instanzen ist das schwierig und man kann leider nicht oder nur sehr begrenzt die Follower anderer Nutzer:innen anschauen.

Autant j'étais rendu que j'allais sur Twitter avec appréhension, sachant pertinemment que le ton allait être acrimonieux et revanchard.

Autant je viens sur Mastodon avec une certaine fébrilité, sachant que les discussions sont à un niveau plus élevé et le ton, surtout, plus respectueux. Enfin, jusqu'à maintenant.

Ce n'est évidemment pas parfait. Rien ne l'est vraiment en ce monde.

Mais c'est nettement mieux que dans la cage de l'oiseau. Bon weekend, tout le monde. :)
