Just installed #mastonaut on my $DAYJOB laptop - why does it limit me to 500 characters, even when my instance limit is 3000?

Pardon my ignorance, but how can I add a second account to #Mastonaut even though it’s on the same server as my first account? Also, how can I delete the duplicates of my first account that I added when trying to add the other? Help!

A few things I wish mastodon and its app ecosystem had:
- making local lists without having to follow people.. and again by local I mean the list data subscription will live in my device only (this is a must have for #privacy and not having that you put activists at risk)

- automatic alt text - this is kinda a solved problem and although on its own it is bad for #a11y, if you moderate the result moderation it can be a huge time saver

#Mastonaut 1.8, a macOS Mastodon client, is out! This version adds
✔ swipe gestures for toots,
✔ autocompletion for emoji (try typing :cat),
✔ some help,
✔ the ability to have multiple compose windows at once,
✔ the option to show very long toots directly in the timeline,
🍷 preliminary support for macOS Sonoma, and
🐞 a bunch of bug fixes.

• mostly #Toot! on iOS, partially #Mastoot for its better timeline read count. Occasionally #Tusker.

Also, sometimes, the web interface.

I ended up never using Trunk (which is now called ThinkSocial).

Fediverse protip:

In web masto-fe, in Preferences set "Advanced UI", then back in the main screen, search #WWDC23 or whatever, hit the 3 seashells, +Pin, and you have a permanent feed of that hashtag.

Mastonaut: Teeny little search icon, same thing. I'm not sure what the two column icons are. Bookmark and some mystery meat box with X. <?>

Tusker: Add hashtag, three dots, Save Hashtag. You have to manually open it.

#Mastonaut 1.7 High Sierra Edition offers some of the features of 1.4 through 1.7, but for people on macOS 10.13 High Sierra through 11.0 Big Sur.

Compared to the App Store release, 1.7 HSE lets you edit posts and view edit history, shows interaction counts, opens linked toots in the app, supports non-default character limits, lets you view your favorites and bookmarks, and search for toots, adds pull-to-refresh, and lets you view lists.

#Mastonaut is a delightful Mac app, everything feels so simple, and yet it still is really customizable.

@esq.social folks, if you are a MacOS user and like an app rather than the mastodon web page, what are you using? I like #Ivory on my phone a lot, but it's not available to me for desktop yet, and #Mastonaut apparently doesn't read this instance. TIA!

#Mastonaut 1.7 lets you customize the font, shows interaction (replies, boosts, favs) counts for the focused status, lets you follow hashtags in the timeline, and fixes a few crashes and other issues — such as with copying text.
