È ormai quasi un anno che uso #Mastoot invece dell’app ufficiale. Oggi l’ho riscaricata e la trovo più carina rispetto all’altra.

Un mio dubbio riguarda la privacy del post: su Mastoot posso metterla anche “unlisted”, cioè una via di mezzo tra “pubblico” e “solo seguaci”, cosa che sull’app ufficiale (da dove sto scrivendo ora) non trovo.

Per caso c’è un modo per mettere “unlisted” anche da qui?

My findings so far:

Mastadon iOS - Fast, pretty, has edit capability, but strips animation from GIFs.

Ice Cubes - Beautiful, customizable, ai shorten text & translation, supports Gifs, fast, great poll options, but no auto threading for longer posts.

MetaText iOS -
Fast, pretty, has GIF animation, but no post editing; only post deletion.

#Mastoot does a couple things better than #IceCubes, specifically image loading times are really fast. Scrolling through the Home timeline is smooth and interactions are quick, something that Ice Cubes can sometimes struggle with.

Mastoot has a long way to go, however, as far as features. Custom emoji and autoplay are costly to load when scrolling through the Home Screen; Ice Cubes can do all of that rather elegantly. The ability to turn off content warnings on Ice Cubes is also big bonus.

Comparing #Mastoot and #IceCubes #Mastodon clients, first I enjoy both as they aim for their strengths: Mastoot being lightweight, both in speed and features, and IceCubes having a ton of features while maintaining ease of use.

Mastoot could use critical features like saving drafts, character count and mention fill assist, and Ice Cubes needs a little code refresh to tighten it up, but depending on your needs they are both great apps.

Yay me! Finally found a decent iOS client for Mastodon. #Mastoot

This concludes the #MastodonClientReview or #Mastoot.
It is easy to use for all the basic features of Mastodon. But it lacks features like iCloud Drive sharing and image centering which takes it out of the running against the likes of #Metatxt.

#MastodonClientReview #Mastoot isn’t going to win. At least not so far. The inability to pick photos or other files to share from my iCloud Drive is an important problem for my usage.

For every #Mastoot user: one of the most or only?) annoying things about Mastoot is missing of the social keyboard.
This helps a bit: under iOS settings - keyboard you can make iOS replace text when you type. I created xx to be replaced with #. It helps a bit.
Any other solutions?

It does not appear to have split my post into more than one from within #mastoot nor from within #metatxt So why does Metatxt have a character counter and why does it want to limit a post length? Interesting.

Ok here I am using Mastoot. #mastoot Compared to #Metatxt this experience involves a lot of looking for functions hidden under menu buttons. Instead of one-tap to switch between Home, Local, or Federated, it’s on a full page menu. Instead of one-tap for Boost it’s behind a tiny ellipsis menu. Mastoot has access to my whole Photos library. There is no character counter so I have no idea when it might split my post into more than one. The CW function is great and easy. The Poll function is great and easy. The Audience function is great and easy. I do not know why there is a Search function here in the Post editor. Here’s a photo from iPhone 13 Max in Portrait Mode. It uploaded quickly. Editing the description of the photo is easy. There is no way to center the photo as you want it displayed in the wide-format. #MastodonClientsReview

Tried almost every iOS Mastodon app, still for me nothing beats the default experience of #Mastoot. Thanks @libei for this amazing app.

@vanellopemint I’ve been using. #mastoot. Seems ok. I hear that #Ivory was pretty decent & more twitter-like, but it seemed a little on the expensive side.

After checking out some 15+ Mastodon clients I believe these free apps are worth your trouble (except Ivory, that one I am subscribed to).

Ice Cubes is slowly growing on me as a winner among these, but Tooot is very promising too. Mammoth is loaded with features but it's unreliable. Metatext is not actively developed, but otherwise excellent. Ivory UI "feels" amazing to use, but it's low on features (early access).
