There's a solution to get beyond the invisible walls. Imperfect but here we go:

Type this into the search box (without spaces)

@ tag-$tagname @ relay.fedi.buzz

E.g. using dnd as the tag name.
@tag-dnd

Works fine

But it doesn't work for:
@tag-a5e

Like gup.pe groups this is a discovery tool. It grabs info from "out of network" I.e. servers that no one is following.

Is there a good "search your own toots" tool for #Mastodon? Either third-party or self-hosted, web interface preferred, full-text search required. #MastoSearch

Edit: I do not want to self-host a Mastodon instance, change instances, take over administration of my current instance, or develop a new search tool from scratch based on your favorite DB/indexer/language.

I wouldn't mind (1) ability to privately search my timeline for public things I missed (I already save/sync my personal #Mastodon posts on my own blog) and (2) Jan's last points - #Fediverse will only get bigger and for it's protection and of it's users a system where we can experiment safely. Just like Twitter's early days folks will build tools and play. #mastosearch

People on Mastodon who whine about indexing of their public posts are like Chris-Chan...

They want to be public figures with an audience and a global platform, with all the benefits and trappings thereof... But they also want to be 100% invisible to anybody they deem a troll. #searchtodon #mastosearch
