Once again, #Threads going Federated doesn't mean the Fediverse is taken over by #Meta. It means people can escape from Meta, and there's no need for journalists et al to have accounts on Threads just to keep in touch with others on the same platform.

And as for privacy... they can suck just as much information out of the #Mastoverse not being a (public) part of it as being a public part of it.

Also, the risk of fediblocks (assuming instance admins aren't stupid enough to pre-emptively #fediblock them) will force them to moderate out the Nazis, which will help everyone and get those off of mainstream platforms.

It's a win-win if they do federation. And bad news if large individual instances decide to pre-emptively fediblock them.

Really not trying to be negative, and actually just thinking out loud. So far, and I might have missed it all, I haven't seen much activity from #mastoverse platforms, especially given how many there are.

Obviously "failure" is in the eye of the beholder and a strong word. But my general axe-to-grind is to ask what it means if a platform/format is mostly left to fend for itself and what it means for how to think about what can/should be built here.

Oh, and memo to all #Mastoverse admins and mods:

You may want to check your instances for racist moles coming in from the MuskyBird bringing in their clogged up toilet brained septic tank mouths attempting to do the same type of mass cyberterror that ran so many to join Masto to begin with.

2) meta question: would it make sense? Yes, No, only in some cases...

the more I live, the stronger I feel that a LOT of the problems of our societies depend on accepting that the definitions of certain concepts

a) are right, and still adequate

b) and a) doesn't even matter because those definitions are unchangeable, like laws of physics basically

Weirdly enough I can't find anyone in the #mastoverse tooting about #12in23, so I'm the first. Heard about it couple of days ago and today a coworker suggested a study group at work. Goal: Do at least 5 exercises in a language you always wanted to learn, but never did. Go nuts with the language, choose something esoteric, old, new, low level, high level, etc. Each month get's a theme to inspire you, and if you manage all 12 months you might win a hoody. Anyone else planning to participate?

when there are new items, if I click on them, the Mastodon web interface LOADS them, but **I** have to scroll manually upwards, a lot, to see the newest ones

It would be much more efficient, instead, if clicking on "new items" REPLACED all the already seen toots with the "new items", newest on top.

Note to #Mastodon admin…a feature I would really like is when you look at someone’s profile (even my own), instead of a list of everything they have liked, boosted or replied (Posts)…and then an option to look at posts and replies…that there was an option to just look at just original posts by a member.

Don’t see a need to follow @‘s that only boost the same things I am probably already following. I want to follow people who put something out into the #Mastoverse.

Just throwing this out to the #mastoverse.. I’ve had this ficus plant for three years but after the first year it dropped most of its leaves and since then has never really recovered. Is it still worth trying to save it? There are a few sparse leaves that cling on or sprout, but never much more. I’ve tried moving it to less/more sunshine (it’s usually pretty dark here though), clipped dry stems, and repotting it, but I have the gardening skills of a clueless middle-aged man.
