We came up with a document on writers' pay and conditions in Ireland. If you'd like to listen to a recent discussion on our thinking behind it, you can find the whole thing here:

PAY WRITERS! I was one of a group of six experienced writers who took part in this project for Match in the Dark. Endorsed by 160 published writers, this report calls for, and provides advice on, better pay and recognition for the work of writers in Ireland. If you're a professional writer, or if you're in a position where you provide work for writers, please check this out.

2/2 … This is never factored in to these campaigns because disabled #artists are consistently & across the board treated with disregard or as hobbyists.
Disabled artists are structurally required to occasionally refuse paid work so they can live and eat – your ecosystem depends on it.
There really is no excuse for not factoring disabled & stateless artists into a campaign on pay transparency in 2022. The lip service is pervasive.

🧵 1/2 #SayWhatYouPay re artists’ in Ireland (literature via #MatchInTheDark) is today.
I think pay transparency is good, &
should always be readily accessible.
The stark reality is #disabled artists’ pay gets deducted from their Disability Allowance. We cannot earn much money & keep our benefits; we have to eat – so we tread water. …

Pay transparency for artists is key to creating an arts sector that is fair and equitable to all.
We have published our fee structure for artists on the Words Ireland website for many years.
Today, as part of the #SayWhatYouPay initiative launched by Match in the Dark, we are happy to display this information at the link below.
