“Surprisingly, about 40 minutes into the experiment, the damage reversed course. One end of the crack fused back together as if it was retracing its steps, leaving no trace of the former injury. Over time, the crack regrew along a different direction.

Hattar called it an “unprecedented insight.”

Boyce, who was aware of the theory, shared his findings with Demkowicz.

“I was very glad to hear it, of course,” Demkowicz said. The professor then recreated the experiment on a computer model, substantiating that the phenomenon witnessed at was the same one he had theorized years earlier.

Their work was supported by the ’s Office of Science, Basic Energy Sciences; the National Nuclear Security Administration and the National Science Foundation.”

"An international research team involving scientists has described the process of growing three-dimensional manganese dendrites. The researchers found that it occurs through accretion of manganese oxide nanoparticles. Understanding the dynamics of the growth of three-dimensional mineral dendrites is important for various fields of science - physics, geology, material sciences and even the study of extraterrestrial environments".

Galvorn is stronger than steel, lighter than aluminum, and has the conductivity of copper, according to an article on LinkedIn. While the jury is still out on whether it’s faster than a speeding bullet, experts at Houston-based DexMat suggest their product can revolutionize the green tech landscape.

Galvorn can be an alternative to rare and expensive copper — a crucial metal in electronics, according to a report from GreenBiz. What’s more, the inventors plan to displace dirty materials, contribute to cleaner air, and advance green tech as their “magical” material is rolled out.

"Low-background steel, also known as pre-war steel, is any steel produced prior to the detonation of the first nuclear bombs in the 1940s and 1950s. Typically sourced from ships (either as part of regular scrapping or shipwrecks) and other steel artifacts of this era, it is often used for modern particle detectors because more modern steel is contaminated with traces of nuclear fallout."

In Australia, Dr Tingting Song and Professor Ma Qian have been doing some incredibly clever things with 3d printing titanium. Their process removes the need for vanadium and aluminium and uses oxygen and iron instead. There's more work and testing to be done, but that's extremely exciting.

Very excited the second recruitment to enrol in our Narrative CV trial is live - a great opportunity in Material Science. If you know lots about nitride crystal growth and materials fabrication (I'm a bit out of my depth with this one…) and want to work with people who are reflective about their research culture:

"However, discovering a technique to integrate quantum and conventional logic units on a single chip, or even adding quantum capabilities to existing fabrication lines, might greatly hasten the adoption of these new systems." - will be interesting in the , to have and on one chip. by the University of Tokyo could make this possible.
