My Matt Beard painting toot for today is another plein air from 2022. The color of the water is perfect.
His paintings make me feel like I am there. Always in a good way.
This piece is named "Who Are You?"
I have been collecting Matt's originals for around ten years. I've never seen one I wouldn't love to own.
This one is no exception.
Enjoy.

I remember this Matt Beard painting for a couple of reasons.one was because it is a scene close to home and second because I saw it right before the lockdown started. My habit of dropping by Matt's studio came to a pretty abrupt halt.
Named 22 Miles to Go, this painting was a commission for someone else. A very lucky person, to be sure.

I picked a more recent Matt Beard painting today. This one is named Gravitational Truce.
He doesn't say too much about it except that it is a plein air painted in his bare feet in wet sand somewhere in the San Diego area.
It is large and beautiful, both characteristics that would allow it to fit right into my collection, but it didn't
Another one that got away.

Every so often, Matt Beard comes up with a painting that is a total surprise.
Named On Geological Time, this desert scene is gorgeous.
I love it but don't own it.
Sadly.

I looked for a Matt Beard painting with a sunset to toot for today.
I found a painting named The Royal Treatment, and it happens to be one I haven't seen before.
Holy cow, do I love these waves.
I needed a sunset because the view from our deck tonight is a bust.
I love looking through Matt's art catalog and picking my favorites.

This Matt Beard painting is spectacular.
It was one of a group of Lake Tahoe paintings.
He calls the location California's east coast.
I was all about buying ocean seascapes when he painted this, so I didn't buy any of them.
I do think the colors are out of this world, and someone else is fortunate to own this piece.
Named Heaven's Fourth Foundation, I think it is one of his most beautiful plein air paintings.

In keeping with my self-imposed relaxation theme, I am tooting the most relaxing Matt Beard painting ever.
I acquired this piece by accident.
Matt painted it live at an event where it was auctioned for charity. The sale fell through, and Matt was stuck. When he showed me a picture on his phone, I said it's mine.
No more problem.
When he delivered it to my office is when I found out it is huge.
It turned out it was my lucky day.
This painting, named Silent Waters, brings out the most relaxed in everyone who sees it.
So relax with me this evening.

At one time, I was trying to collect at least one painting from every coastal county in California. Matt Beard's pricing structure takes into account the number of miles he travels from home, the type of accommodations, and even if he encounters ticks or poison oak.
It's complicated.
So the further south the scene generally the more expensive. The SoCal pieces were the hardest for me to fill in.
This piece is named Escaping Santa Cruz Crowds: circa 1880.
It would have covered Santa Cruz County, but it didn't because it isn't mine.

I was in another room resting from my painting adventure when I heard my husband yell. With not a little panic, I run down the stairs. He just wanted to tell me that Matt Beard was on TV promoting the upcoming music festival. Matt provided the art for the poster.
Whew.
This painting, which was the basis for last year's poster, is named Chromatic Water Theory XIII: Abstract Jazz.
I love his live music art with the instruments woven into the rhythm of the waves he loves.
This one isn't mine either.

This Matt Beard painting is almost my favorite. It comes in a close second. The original was his gift to us right before my husband's most serious cancer surgery.
He used a photo of the Staggerwing on the ground and painted it in the air over the Shelter Cove, California shoreline gear up.
My husband, a professional pilot, decided to sell his personal plane before surgery so I wouldn't have to sell it if things went sideways. Selling an airplane like this one is a little tricky. He had a fifty-fifty chance at surviving treatment. He probably had zero chance of keeping his medical and pilot's license.
This painting is named Pacific Coast Higher Way and is a beautiful way to remember a cherished possession.

I am lucky to live so close to the ocean.
Although my beach going opportunities are few these days. My favorite beaches are all around me right on my walls, like constant reminders of warm happy days.
I remember when Matt Beard painted this piece. I don't remember why it's not mine.
Another Humboldt County scene named An Invitation.

Tooting my Matt Beard art toot today right before it's tomorrow.
Named Rags to Riches, this plein air painting would have really made my day if I had gotten to it first. That's the problem with far away scenes they are too far away for me to call dibs.
It feels like originals are available for two or maybe three minutes. That's not true, but it feels like that.
Excited to see Matt and his family tomorrow.

This Matt Beard painting evaded me completely. I saw it on his website and had to oooh and awww all by myself. I don't visit him as often and have missed seeing some of the most recent work.
This plein air painting is named Dust and Ashes, and I think it was painted somewhere around these parts.
Somebody is very lucky to have this painting.

Before my life was upended by a combination of plagues, cancer, and covid, I had aspirations to travel. I replaced my expired passport and started saving money for a trip to Ireland.
The plan was to travel with Matt Beard and his wife to stay close to a surfable stretch of coastline and enjoy good company and see fabulous painting in real time.
Inspired by Matt's painting trip to Italy, but my trip to Ireland wasn't meant to be.
This painting of a scene in Italy is named As the Wheel Turns.
Again, it's not a painting I own but one I appreciate.

I almost forgot to post some Matt Beard art today. This was a live art piece that he painted to music at an event celebrating Spam, of all things.
I wasn't in attendance.
Boy, I wish I was, though, because this is one of my favorite live art pieces, and it isn't mine.
Named Drip Castles, it is a total delight.
Another, I can't believe it got away piece.

As soon as this warm weather lets up, I need to bake homemade cinnamon rolls.
They are Matt Beards' favorite, and he is overdue for a delivery.
This painting was from a group that was all over the top fabulous. I did manage to talk him out of a few pieces, but not this one. The scene offers everything I love. Even a cactus.
Named Idylls of the King, it is lovely.
He said it was cooking hot outside. You can almost feel it.

I remember when Matt Beard returned from his trip to the Channel Islands.
I met him at his gallery one evening after work, and he leaned several paintings against the wall. Some were closer to finished than others.
I wanted them all, but my bank account said no. I pulled aside a few from the ones that were available for sale. I always appreciate seeing, even the pieces I can't have, before they go to their new home.
This acrylic on birch painting named Beside Clear Waters was meant for someone else.
I love both the ones I bought and the ones I didn't.
#MattBeard
Clearly, there are more Matt Beard paintings that I want than what I have. I try to avoid being greedy, but some of them bring out my worst greedyness tendencies.
I really, really wanted a cactus piece, but alas, they are usually painted far from Humboldt, and someone else gets to them first.
This one is named Thermal Windows, and it would have fit right into my collection, but it didn't.
Enjoy!

My Matt Beard art toot today is a painting he did as a commission for, sadly, not me.
I love this place that is only minutes from my house.
Clearly, this was early spring, maybe March.
It is named After a Long Dark Winter, I'm not sure if it was a plein air or studio piece, but I know I can stand in that spot, and it will look just like this painting.
Again a piece I would love to have that missed my boat.
Enjoy.

Over the years I have introduced friends and family to Matt.
My niece was passing through on her way to somewhere, and the one thing she wanted from me was to meet Matt Beard and visit his studio.
I was able to arrange a private show of some new work and the introduction she wanted.
Coincidentally, the new work was plein air paintings from an Oregon trip.
As an Oregon resident and avid hiker, she had recently been to this beach and had a photo of the same scene on her phone.
Named Mine... Or Maybe Yours this original painting now lives at her house and is a prized possession.
I was happy to be of assistance.
