On my way to the old Signetics HQ and fab, I pass the former HQ and fab of Maxim Integrated Products.
I became a fan of Maxim's chips in 1989, starting with its #MAX232, a great replacement for the two chips usually required to translate voltage levels between 5-volt TTL and the -12V to +12V used in EIA-232 (RS-232).
By the mid 1990s, I had used another #Maxim IC to create a tiny switching power regulator inside software-development cartridges for the Super #Nintendo .
