In 2018, Andrés Manuel López Obrador commonly referred to as AMLO, announced the construction of #TrenMaya, or #MayanTrain. This 1500+ km long intercity railway connecting various cities around the Yucatan.

This #documentary attempts to communicate the impact the Mayan Train project has on the environment, historical artifacts, human rights, and the lives of the local people and shedding a light on those who are fighting against this project despite the danger it poses.

Land speculation and urban sprawling are the main economic drivers of the "Mayan Train," in the city of Merida, one of the most important industrial hubs in the Train's tracks is expected to grow exponentially as many now defunct projects have been renewed, including an airport, new highways, industrial corridors, etc. #environment #Mexico #mayantrain

The so called "Mayan Train" interconnects the Gulf of Mexico with the existing rail and highway infrastructure. This infrastructure is also followed by pipelines connecting Canada-US and Mexico. The regional project of the "Greater Isthmus of Tehuantepec" is not new and dates to at least the 19th Century. #environment #mayantrain #Mexico
