Dr Hukwe Zawose (1939 or 40-2003) was a well-known #MultiInstrumentalist and #singer from #Tanzania 🇹🇿 and more specifically the Gogo ethnic group; an influence that is clearly present in his #music and #voice. His main #instrument is the Ilimba, a large #lamellophone similar to the #mbira. The music, although simple in form, envelops you as you listen, a cycle that subtly evolves, over which Hukwe's voice rings out to express his thoughts. One of the best concerts I attended in my whole life!
The W3 in Hamburg still exists, but it looks like they no longer have a music program (see https://w3-hamburg.de/start/ueber-uns/), in contrast to the 1980s
