I don't know, this #system1m just doesn't make me happy. Maybe something is wrong with me? This is the best "normal" synth sound I've been able to coax out of it so far. And it's not like I can't get that out of my #mc707 by itself. Actually I'd have another LFO and a bunch more filter/effect options on that thing. How does it sound to you? (Cheap 909 backdrop courtesy of #mc707 of course.)
Wow, look at me, they actually fixed the bug I reported. #mc707 #roland https://www.roland.com/pl/support/by_product/mc-707/updates_drivers/3dd281c1-aad9-4c23-820e-c06c62b385f2/
I've been annoyed as all heck by my #mc707 not sending proper bank select MIDI on clip changes. Turns out that they simply reversed what MSB and LSB mean in the #mc707 clip settings tab. The #jv1010 manual says, for example, "MSB 81 LSB 3" to select some bank but if you put "MSB 81 LSB 3" into the clip settings that will NOT send the correct bank select. Only if you put "MSB 3 LSB 81" so the exact WRONG thing will this shit actually work. Yes, latest 1.81 firmware. Hey #roland maybe fix that?
I am about to put my KORG Volca Modular up for sale because I can't really figure out what to do with it. Yes some fun bleeps and bloops come out after 30 minutes of patching. But without MIDI it's not really part of my setup except for some sampling into the #mc707. And it doesn't sound THAT impressive. ... Am I making a mistake? After all, it's the only piece of "analog gear" I actually have around here.
I am trying to do "better" guitar arps by looking at guitar chord progressions and then hammering them in "single step" into my #mc707. Is that an idiotic approach? It certainly SOUNDS more guitar-like than what I used to do: Just hit some notes and see if I like it.
The more likely "solution" is getting yet another external synth and using the second external audio input the #mc707 has. Oh wait, the old EMU Proteus has three stereo outs... Well, never mind, since I can get at most 4 mono channels into the #mc707 it's a lost cause anyway. I also don't see myself adding a mixer and separate effects, the whole point of the #mc707 was to be an "one size fits all" brain. I'll just live with the limitations! It's not like I am a real musician anyway... 😄
One "hack" would be to pan one sound hard right, the other hard left, and then use the external inputs on my #mc707 in mono mode. That way I could get TWO parts into separate effect chains. But the darn thing can do 16 parts. And I like some of the stereo effects in those patches! I guess another approach would be to sample a finished sequence with effects, then do the next one, sample it, repeat. Seems like a lot of extra work any way you slice it.
I'm excited to announce that I will play a live gig at @furality Sylva (June 2-4). It will be called "Operator Burstup's Acid Dub Show". Register for the con here: https://furality.org

I just cannot believe how ancient all the "fancy new Zen stuff" is in the #mc707 and friends. Come on #roland you could have done a LITTLE better in 30+ years, no? I mean you even have "typos" in the #mc707 manual that prove that you've just been copy/pasting much of this stuff since at least the #jv1080 back in 1994!
I performed this little #dubtechno tune - Fine Habits - at

Luma Festival in February. This is a new, longer version, again played on my favourite #groovebox and #acid synth. I hope you'll enjoy it! 😸

Anyone else "digging deep" into the #roland #mc707 (or related machines) in terms of sound design? Boosts welcome!
One current issue for me is that I cannot figure out how to use LFO1 to control the rate of LFO2. The feature seems to exists in the "matrix control" section, but I can't get it to work.
I noticed that it should be possible because of this #sh4d video by Jorb: https://youtu.be/pWwlvgEMf-k After all, most of the #sh4d seems to be the same engine, just with a different UI...
