Acabo de restaurar un RAID-1 que tengo en la laptop del radio shack. Un pequeño conector me permite poner otro disco donde usualmente iba el CD/DVD y entonces tener 2 discos y la posibilidad de tener redundancia. @pelzi Ich hab es schon einige male erlebt, das #btrfs deutlich stärker offeriert, wenn etwas mit dem Blockdevice nicht stimmt.
Konnte das dann aber auch stets mit #smart Werten und Test bestätigen.
Gelegentlich konnte ich es auf Aussetzer zurückführen, die am Kabel oder etwas anderem Lagen, die soetwas wie #mdadm einfach stillschweigend Hinnahme aber Btrfs stehts loggte.

Well, after some research, and a sprinkling of mdadm incantations, I have managed to --assemble 1 disk of this mirror #RAID through a USB SATA dock. Did have some fun with an md127 device cause a busy error, but a --stop sorted that.

Anyway, I now have the disk mounted and data is start to copy off it! Yippee 😁

Learnt lots about #Linux #RAID and #mdadm too 🥳

Well, the #RAID left side HDD powered up in my USB dock. I was able to see all the partitions and heard no nasty noises. The partition that had all the data is raid formatted so I cannot simply mount it. Now researching #mdadm and software RAID so that I can safely mount this one disc of a mirror RAID set.

Yes, this is fun... Lovin' it!

Heu... Un disque qui disparaît de l'array #raid5 sans crier gare et qui remet ça au redémarrage suivant malgré une reconstruction de l'array sans erreur avec #mdadm et un #SMART sans problème... On est d'accord pour dire que ça pue pour le disque et qu'il faut que je le remplace ? #sysadmin

So after more reading tonight for my *BACKUP* server (that will be its main purpose) I have decided to:
— create a 4 disk #RAID6 array with #mdadm
— have it use #NILFS2 as its file system (with continual #checkpoints and manual #snapshots)
— use @nixos_org as OS

I understand it have a performance hit, from both these decisions, but this will be the biggest part in my backup strategy.
TBD:
— filesystem for OS on SSD :thaenkin:

any #admin|s with #linux raid / #mdadm knowledge?

I updated a sytem that partially lives on a mdadm raid to ubuntu 18 (yes yes, i know i'm late).
now I can't boot (kernel crashes), because the raid isn't mounted on startup. I can mount the raid manually though when booting with init=/bin/bash!
any idea how to fix this?
