#Car shifting lever was having difficulty returning to center when warmed up (not a gearbox problem, luckily), so after much research I did this procedure:

Slightly scary removing the ECU, but all went well. Lubricated the cables, joints, lever and return spring and fixed a loose hydraulic hose while in there.

Tomorrow we'll drive to town and find out if it's sorted now.

Managed to do the oil and filter on my Ridgeline today. The joys of owning a truck. Didn't have to jack it up. The downsides. If i did have to jack it up, I don't have a jack that'll both fit underneath, and deal with the frankly silly suspension travel. And my running boards are 90% in the way of my jacking spots, so I can't pick it up with the forklift at work, either.
Other than that, went surprisingly well. Brakes next.

Since we bought a car with unknown service history, we have to change everything. Slowly working my way down the list.

This diesel filter was tricky. Either someone didn't use their torque wrench or it's been in for too long, but the plastic casing really didn't want to open.

Got it eventually. At least it wasn't a waste of time, as the filter was quite obviously due!

Then had to use my trusty #Mityvac to bleed the system.

Today a #mechanic bent over backwards to help me out when one of the brake calipers on my truck seized up. As a profession, visits to the mechanic tend to be right up there with doctors and the BMV, but this guy made it happen with only three hours left on the last day of his work week. Just wanted to let everyone know that there remain folks in the world who are just being #awesome for awesomeness’ sake.

In all my free time (🤣), I've turned into an accidental #HomeNetworking hobbyist, run the automated weekly build system for #OpenWRT fork #ROOter, spoil the giant pile of needy #sheepdogs, and play #mechanic on anything that doesn't run away from me fast enough. Any time left after that is usually "spotting" mechanical things, if it's machinery I'm probably interested. Some #planespotting (also an #ADSB collector), #shipspotting, and grew up #trainspotting (#railfan for Americans).

I got my new fuel pump relay for my #vw #squareback, now I just have to find the wires that some monkey cut off to bypass the old one. The diagram shows wires running to the pump, ECU, voltage regulator, and auxiliary air valve. I *think* I know where all those are, and I have a test light so I can tell if they have voltage.
