I also wanted to add that as someone who's not deep into #battletech lore, I really appreciated how the companies and bounty hunter presented self-contained narratives I could follow. As opposed to the DLC campaign missions, which frequently made me feel like I was at a reunion for a high school I didn't attend.

My wife and I have played a ton of #Mechwarrior5 since the latest dlc was released, and we've really enjoyed the addition of rival mercenary companies. Their random interventions really spice up the missions, especially if they ambushed you at the end of 400-ton drop.

And building up the bounty hunter's intel on them gave us a long-term goal to work towards while still giving us a ton freedom in which missions to do.

We had a 45 minute hailstorm this evening, and it gave me a good excuse to warm up the house with more Mech fighting! I have a good crew so far, and 7 Mechs to choose from. Also tested the game on Steam Deck this morning, and it runs really well! I’m really enjoying the different planets and missions.

One of these days I'll have to check out online Co-op.

The Highlander HGN-732B is my strongest mech. It's got powerful long range weapons that can win an engagement before an enemy gets close. Plus, the jump jets let you take pot shots at enemies hiding behind cover. Even if something gets too close for LRMs, they'll be facing a wall of armor + 3 medium lasers and an SRM 6 ART IV. And the Gauss rifle gets even deadlier at close range, where the high accuracy and damage can just blow out cockpits.

#Mechwarrior5 co-op war story.

It had been a rough drop. A lance of rival mercenaries ambushed us just as we made contact with the first enemy mechs, and while we won that encounter, we had sustained heavy damage. Then my wife went ham. In her 55-ton Wulver, she dueled a 65-ton Warhammer solo before charging uphill at a 90-ton Highlander and shooting out it's cockpit.

The Zeus ZEU-5T is a mech that took me a while to appreciate. It's armor and weapons are lighter than most assault mechs, and the 3 different long range weapons felt awkward. Then I realized it was more about picking the right tools for the job, not firing everything at once. You can hit fast targets, conserve ammo, do close range, or do indirect fire, etc.

The Zeus also has the best maneuverability of any assault mech, so you can choose the engagement that's ideal.

My wife liked the twin AC20s on #KingCrab KGC-0000, but was concerned that 40 rounds wouldn't be enough. So we downgraded the large laser to a medium laser, and spent some of the extra tonnage to double the ammo to 80 rounds. It seemed excessive to me, but then a rival Merc company dropped on our head with an Annihilator, and she carved them up, along with most of the other heavy mechs we encountered that mission. She ended with 4 rounds to spare.

My wife and I just finished the campaign of the new #MechWarrior5 dlc, #RiseOfRasalHague and that story seems very much not written for people who don't follow #battletech lore. Fighting a few holdouts during "The largest peaceful transfer of territory in history." isn't super compelling, and the segmented campaign didn't focus on anyone long enough to build pathos. Maybe if I read the novels, I would understand all the personalities and machinations at play, but absent that it was kinda dull.
