Now it's just a ratings choice, to not anger conservatives; while local news and local gov't accountability are dead since there are so few newspapers that are not owned by VC firms. It's truly sad. Why has NOBODY called out #Mediaite for doxxing #JohnMastodon? Wasn't it OBVIOUS that he wanted to hid behind the joinmastodon.org domain name, even going so far as to include no personal information about himself on the site whatsoever?

I can only interpret Mediaite's irresponsible behavior towards John as some sort of swipe at Elon Musk. After all, can it be mere COINCIDENCE that they doxxed Mastodon at exactly the same time as Musk was making a big noise about being doxxed himself?

No social media magnate can ever feel safe after this shameful incident. Not John Mastodon. Not Elon Musk. Not even Mark Zuckerberg.

It seems it’s not just #Mediaite that needs new editors! The Sunday Times has pre-written their World Cup winners story. Trying to work out which team is Xxxx though!

At best that’s carelessness, but it’s malpractice for a journalist. The lesson I’ve learned from it is that #Mediaite has inadequate editorial oversight.

I’m enjoying all of the #JohnMastodon jokes, but let’s stop for a second to appreciate the horror.

A reporter misread a Twitter handle, created a person out of whole cloth, attributed major actions to him, AND THEN PUBLISHED IT with zero fact checking.

A quick Google would have sufficed…
