One thing I've learned about illustrating , whether by hand or digitally, is how to depict something in a new way yet accurately.

I can't make stuff up yet the illustration should be revelent to the topic I'm working on.

For now, I'm sticking with the basics & be more boldly in the near future. :)

This took a day to complete, from a sketch on a drawing pad to this.

There are things that cannot fully substitute & I had to resort to old-school skills.

The hardest part is the blending & getting the lighting right.

Ok, it's starting to look more like a dim sum, like one of those steamed pork (siu mai). Maybe I'm just hungry after two hours of this.

Anyway, I'm getting the workflow of using & using tablet & learned to adjust pen pressure & angle to create the desired shading & blending effects.

BUT I'm not happy w/ the lymph vessels' black outline. Didn't turn out the way I like. Will have to redo them.

With the help of , I was able to finally create a simplified of the Cori cycle for a future update of our content on lactic acid on

is nowhere near to correctly depict human anatomy, but thankfully there are other tools to use, like Photo and Designer & old-school hand-drawn . 🙂
