Hope thing are better by now.
Even doctors try not to rely on medicine unless necessary, but when deciding whether or not take medicine, we look at these long term. E.g. a month from now, what are the risks and benefits of taking ibuprofen? Well, small chance it might irritate stomach, but also good chance of better healing resulting in increased exercise capacity (compared to not healing) and better health. So, not a blanket yes/no.
Re: barriers to #MedicalDecisionMaking
Honestly even if I disagree with a patient to the extent that I would need to do something like call CPS (thankfully, this hasn't come up, but there's other stuff), then I at very least am very straightforward about WHAT and WHY. Then if they're like, "wait wait wait, it ain't like that..." then I can resolve it. Or at least they're informed. Or whatever.
More awareness around #safetyseeking behaviors is needed

situations, when patient info. is incomplete and when patients presentwith atypical complaints. Agree that more effort/research needs to be undertaken to better understand how docs can avoid making costly diagnostic errors and do better. It's tricky! We do not want to overtest—that has it's own slew of problems/costs/harms to patients. #Emergency #MedicalDecisionMaking #EmergencyMed

@horsepharmer The question of pharmacists prescribing aside, this is an overburdensome policy impairing access to an underused and lifesaving drug. Every medication we prescribe has absolute and relative contraindications. Isn’t this the sort of thing we went to medical school for? Not a fan of legislated #MedicalDecisionMaking.
