TODAY IN QUEER TV HISTORY

CNN NEWS - 7/7/1981

Today in 1981, CNN aired what was probably the first national American TV news report on AIDS: a short piece about a rare skin cancer that had been diagnosed in 41 young gay men.

The Cable News Network was relatively new then: it had launched just one year earlier.

In 1901, American surgeon John Harvey Gitcomb coined ‘Newyorkitis’ to describe a combination of short-sightedness, rudeness, and hotdog-like protuberance on the face. Surgery was the only remedy but he did like to jokingly prescribe ketchup and mustard to patients first.

I am just > 35% through the book by and it's gotten very good. At 10% in, I was still evaluating. But it's building and weaving beautifully a story of and that's becoming fascinating. I'm learning and simultaneously impressed by it's flow, it's organization & the narrator's delivery. (I realized I was listening at 0.85 speed early on. LOL once I corrected that it also got better)
