A new "For the Medical Record" is out! We talk to brilliant Beatrix Hoffman about her project "Borders of Care: A History of Immigration, Migration, and the Right to Health Care"
Beatrix is *such* a good historian, and this project is so necessary. In this episode we talk specifically about her chapter on the post-war Bracero program, and the intersection of immigration, labor, and healthcare.

📢 We've got a new episode of "For the Medical Record" published, with Jeremy Greene!
In this ep, we talk about how history can “reshape the limits of the possible” and push back against the “inertia of entrenched power”; about his most recent book, The Doctor Who Wasn’t There: Technology, History, and the Limits of Telehealth; and about how and why the medical humanities must be a “critical” field.

NEW EPISODE!!
Am really proud of this one.
We talk about what makes good horror; harmful reps of disability; the history of medical experimentation; and “crip time”. We may not recommend watching this film, but we def recommend thinking through it!

My final gig for the year: chatting to @bschillace on the Peculiar Book Club.
Before an international audience, we spoke about my book On Getting Off: Sex and Philosophy, and a whole lot more besides.
There was a musical interlude, and I even got to talk about swords.

This week in my #MedicalHumanities class, we talked about the shifting narratives of #HIVAids over the last 40-odd years, the stigmatizing origins of the term "patient zero," and the ways humans scapegoat and support each other.
Despite effective prophylaxis and treatment, the HIV/AIDS #pandemic isn't over, and disproportionately affects LMIC. Many upcoming events for #WorldAIDSDay, both in-person and online. Get educated, get tested, get protected!

Here is an outline of what I’m writing about in my #dissertation:
I’m looking at #endometriosis through a #feminist #disabilitystudies lens. It’s an interdisciplinary project that uses #MedicalHumanities, #history, #theory, #ethnography, and #popculture. My argument is that endometriosis has not been taken seriously as the disabling illness that it is, both by disability studies scholars and feminist activists. I’m also using autocriticism and interspersing my experiences throughout.

Focused on evidence-making practices and embodied experiences of COVID-19, including Long Covid and COVID care. My work draws on critical and #newmaterialist approaches to #sts / #ScienceAndTechnologyStudies #medicalhumanities #disabilitystudies #culturalstudies #mediastudies #sociologyofhealthandillness. Also interested in what thoughtful, reciprocal transdisciplinarity looks like in practice, the value of popular culture as theory, and creative approaches to knowledge making and dissemination (+ how these might all work together). Working on unceded Bedegal, Gadigal, and Wangal country.

It's been really helpful in untangling my feelings about #VeterinaryMedicine. So much of (me) being a doctor is striving for perfection or at least to be a "good doctor" by every measure, and coming up short in my own mind. And it's that perspective that harms me.
