Starting another series of joints for our new topic clusters for #massagefitmag
I haven't used #affinityphoto or do any #digitalart since May, and It took me a while to get used to the UI and the hang of it again.
So far so good. :)

One thing I've learned about illustrating #humananatomy, whether by hand or digitally, is how to depict something in a new way yet accurately.
I can't make stuff up yet the illustration should be revelent to the topic I'm working on.
For now, I'm sticking with the basics & be more boldly in the near future. :)

A rendering of the trigeminal nerve and the start of its three main nerve branches: opthalmic (eyes), maxillary (face, teeth), mandibular (jaw).

I'm looking for #medicalillustration #ScienceIllustration help to put together a figure or two for a review article I'm assembling
I was just laid off & this will be an out of pocket expense, so I hope to keep costs down if possible. I can add explicit acknowledgemt in the manuscript if that would be an incentive
Referrals much appreciated

After 3 weeks of not touching my drawing tablet, it still feels like I never left it.
Currently updating a few of my stories in #massagefitmag w/ skin anatomy & touch receptors.

So I finally got another practical use of #aiart: generating generic images to support an #illustration .
Human anatomy, however, is still human-made, digitally.

And just like that, 2 hrs crawled by. That's 2 hrs of #lofimusic.

Sliding filaments, part of the work of my upcoming illustration on muscle soreness, inflammation, and basic muscle contraction anatomy & physiology.

Haven't been on #Twitter for more than a month. That means less distractions & getting more things done, like this. 😁
I updated my story on whether cluneal nerves cause #backpain or not and use this as an illustration.

Tip of the weekend: if you want to depict bone texture in #affinityphoto or #photoshop, use the burn tool with the pencil brush tool H, B, or HB selected.
Select & experiment with different brush sizes & see which one works for your piece. If you're using #Wacom pen & tablet, try different pressures.
I lay a foundation of where the shadows are & then go back to add random larger "pores" and lines with the pencil brush tool only (no burn).

A few days ago, I completed the lateral view of the spine from the C1 to L5, just enough to depict various types of postures for my content.
While the work did get tedious after I was done with the T spine, it was worth it. And coffee and #lofi music helped.
I'd like to continue with the sacrum, coccyx, & pelvis to complete the skeletal posture, but I need to step away from it & do something else before coming back to this.

A great thing about this mini project is learning the parts of a vertebra and the differences between each one more in detail.
Plus, I found a few ways to depict bone texture w/o using an actual "texture" brush.
Not too surprisingly, the pencil brush actually works pretty well!

#aiart probably won't catch up to human-made #digitalart any time soon (I could be wrong). I haven't had much luck with anatomically correct #humananatomy yet with #midjourney, but that's ok.
There's something about the process in making these drawing quite cathartic.

I put away my Wacom tablet & stylus last yr & forgot about it until the day after my birthday when something "clicked" in my head.
So I took it out from my plastic bin & drew on it again.
Although I was already doing some digital work in 2022, I took it more seriously in the past 4 wks.
The top one was done before the "click" moment. The second one was done tonight. It'd be interesting to compare these in 6 months.

So I finally completed a liver illustration that I've been exploring since last August.
Next step: anatomy details for the Cori Cycle.

This took a day to complete, from a sketch on a drawing pad to this.
There are things that #aiart cannot fully substitute & I had to resort to old-school skills.
The hardest part is the blending & getting the lighting right.

It didn't turn out the way I expected, but it's better than what I imagined.

Ok, it's starting to look more like a dim sum, like one of those steamed pork (siu mai). Maybe I'm just hungry after two hours of this.
Anyway, I'm getting the workflow of using #CorelPainter & using #Wacom tablet & learned to adjust pen pressure & angle to create the desired shading & blending effects.
BUT I'm not happy w/ the lymph vessels' black outline. Didn't turn out the way I like. Will have to redo them.

Forgot my earbuds and I’m glad that this Barnes & Noble’s location does not blast Mariah Carey’s Christmas songs to the point where I might throw an axe 🪓 at something.
Meanwhile, I think I’m making progress. #medicalart #medicalillustration #digitalart #corelpainter #wacom #winterinSeattle #coffeeanddraw

I have current research in #CochlearImplant, #TBI, #NoiseInduced #HearingLoss in an #ovine model, #Encephalocele repair, and otic organoids, and I have recent publications in #Stapedectomy/ #Stapedotomy, #VestibularSchwannoma/ #AcousticNeuroma, #LabyrinthitisOssifcans, #Tympanoplasty, #COVID, and #ResidentEducation. I’ve been known to do my own #MedicalIllustration and stats for publications, too. 2/3
